iteration:print is the working title for a current print and sculpture project. In traditional intaglio printmaking the etched copper plate which creates the print is just a vehicle. Once the edition is printed, the plate is struck to prevent additional printings. Often, however, the plate is just as interesting an art object as the prints it creates. With iteration:print I am exploring the creation of plates which are also sculptural objects. This semester, since I am also working on line->plane->volume, I will only be making one printable sculpture, a cube. Each side of the cube will have acid-etched relief images which I can print on paper. Next semester I hope to continue the process and create more shapes.
